VSO’s programme in Mongolia opened in 1991. Since then, more than 400 VSO volunteers have contributed to the development of Mongolia through various interventions to strengthen the capacity of our partners in the areas of education, health and secure livelihoods. We also worked towards promoting and supporting national volunteering in all areas where we worked. Our Mongolia country office closed in March 2014.
In 2011, VSO reviewed the best way to allocate our resources to make the greatest possible difference to global poverty. We decided we would begin to close programmes if the country we were operating in was:
- not least developed
- had relatively smaller numbers of people in poverty
- had less regional or global influence
VSO’s Mongolia country office closed in March 2014.
