National Volunteering
The national volunteering goal is to enable Kenyan citizens to achieve their right to participate in the local and national development, thereby improving their quality of life. The programme works with partner organisations to strengthen volunteer management capacity and also engages with government, civil society and the private sector to strengthen volunteerism in Kenya. Other areas that are included in the programme include:
Employee volunteering: VSO Jitolee supports corporates in Kenya and Uganda to develop employee volunteering policies as well as short term and long term volunteer work placements for their employees.
Global Xchange: This programme runs 2 projects suitable for Kenyan Youth.
Youth Action - VSO Jitolee in partnership with the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports is implementing the Global Xchange Youth Action (GX-YA) Programme. This new initiative gives young people from Kenya and the UK the opportunity to volunteer alongside each other in Kenya and join the fight against poverty. We are currently running the ICS YA Programme Volunteers in Nyanza County, Kenya.
Youth Xchange - gives the opportunity for young people aged 18-25 to volunteer in Kenya and the UK. Kenyan volunteers are paired with a volunteer from the UK, and work within a team of 9 other pairs for 3 months in each country. As well as participating in community development projects participants live with a local family in each country, enhancing cultural awareness and understanding.
Global education/development awareness: Activities, primarily undertaken by returned volunteers, to raise the awareness of others in their home community of issues connected with international development and life in other countries, including north-south community and school linking.
