Health roles in South Sudan
Our health programme aims to increase access to basic health services and strengthen the health management systems across the country. With fewer than 700 nurses for a population of 8 million people and just 34 fully trained local doctors South Sudan’s healthcare system cannot provide for its population. We intend to strengthen the organisational and operational capacity of the Ministry of Health and support training providers to produce more, better qualified health professionals.
We’re calling for nurse teacher trainers and health care and hospital managers to volunteer with VSO and help us to achieve this aim.
We require experienced hospital nurses to work with local trainers to train local tutors and supervisors - developing practical demonstration and clinical teaching methods. We’ll place hospital and health service managers in the Ministry of Health to implement strong management systems and processes. You’ll also improve coordination between the state and country level to provide more coherent healthcare across the country.

We’re currently looking for applications from nurses with at least five years’ practical experience plus some teaching or mentoring experience. For health mangers, we require at least three years’ experience of managing healthcare programmes and health management information systems (MIS).
